Hi! I have HL 8.0e , and, at first it was completely bombing out for 4e based on "duplicate entries." I cleared out and re-loaded the updates from this site, and eventually it comes up, but the race and class slots do not let me make entries.
What am I missing?
I looked through the forum and could not find anything.
Thank you for your help!
In service,
Rich
Nothing like this happened on any of my machines. Are you sure you completely cleaned out the 4e files before you re-downloaded them?
I am having this same issue. HeroLab v8.1 - no race or class options, and they had worked prior. I'd love to refresh, btu I have no clue how to proceed.
I'll begin checking the forum here, but any pointers in the right direction (maybe a link to the forum post with the instructions) would be greatly appreciated!
Once I find those instructions, if available, I'll give it a go and report back results with more details should it remain a problem.
Thanks! ~Ron
OK then - this turned out to be a pretty easy fix.
The problem is a conflict between "things_adjustments.dat" and "things_adjustments.user" files. By removing the .dat version of this file, it removed the conflict errors and restored the class and race selection lists without removing the changes/updates made by the team. All seems to function well now. I even purged and reloaded the data files for good measure and all remained well.
Here's a step by step account of what I did:
- Opened HeroLab
Selected and Loaded 4e Authoring Kit
Opened a character
Selected from the menu Tools>Explore Folders>Game System Data Folder
A windows explorer window opened up to the file location.
Located the ddidownloader.exe file. Double-click and select option d. Confirm. [This removes the ddi files]
There's also this - if you're getting this error, you're likely running into a loading error with two similar files:
If you're getting the "things_adjustments.*" conflict errors, having two of these files is what causes the conflict and prevents the race and class menus from loading. To correct this, follow these instructions:
- In the same folder, find the file named "things_adjustements.dat"
Use cut and paste to relocate that file to a subfolder. I recommend the "importbackup" subfolder.
If the .dat file is already there, it is safe to simply delete the "thing_adjustments.dat" file in the 4e folder.
You're done!
Now, just exit HeroLab, and reload it. The errors will vanish, and all the menus will once again work!

OK - new wrinkle.
All the PH core classes aren't appearing in the classes list. I am not at all sure why. I checked the Sources list in the opening dialogue and the Player's Handbook itself is NOT listed in the selections for sources! Every book under the sun is there, except the PH.
Any insights?
