Title: Animal Companion
Post by: Sean Abel on February 23, 2014, 01:06:37 AM
Hey everyone,
I can not find how to add animals (let alone modify the ones listed) in the tool builder. I have a new player that wants to play a ranger beast master and I can not add or edit in a companion with in the program. Help or ideas would be great thank you all

Right now for a beast master I add a second character to the portfolio using Character Type Monster.

That's pretty free form for managing it and it doesn't auto-level.

What would be neat is to figure out how Shadowrun adds spirits to a character portfolio and use a similar mechanic...

If anybody has an idea of how to do that, I'm all ears, I'll happily do the data entry, the development part leaves me a bit confused.

Any one able to make progress on adding an animal tab to the program, or can we put a stat card in for them or something?

I've been extremely slowly working on familiars for my sorcerer, but it's a big job. With familiars they just use the character's stat for defenses, but I haven't worked very hard on modifying the character sheet options to include a companion section that pulls the right information. Further all companions would need to be placed into a file that gives pullable stats, and then probably a new tab would need to be created, or else some serious modification of the Allies tab.
Probably having the correct feat or class feature could be made to unhide the new companion tab/show the companion section on the Allies tab, at which point you could pick which thing you have. Possibly that could be made to also trigger a hidden field in the Character sheets, but probably it will require a new "Standard Character Sheet with Companion" and "Standard Sheet & Power Cards with Companion" and so on for each option (so 5 new combo sheets) plus a "Companion Character Sheet" option.

I've not had the time to look at the sheets more to figure out exactly how complex they are or hidden section scriptable. I can go deeper and make some notes if this was something that we really wanted done soon.

Just checking to see if there was any progress to adding companions, ect I think that Pathfinder has it but I do not have those data sets.

This would be really useful to me. In an online game I'm running, I have a character with a Beast Companion, an Animal Companion, and a Spirit Companion. Not to mention powers that conjure and/or summon critters.

Oh, plus an animal minion (from a Theme or Background, can't remember which). This lady is bringing a menagerie into every fight.
