Creation Tutorials

So little over a year ago I promised SAbel that I would make some tutorials for how to make new everything. I seem to remember that he wanted a Race tutorial to start, which is probably where I will begin, but after that I am open to what I make next. I am reasonably swamped with small children and work, but instead of designing 3d models for a printer I don't yet own I'll be spending my free time working on tutorials. Please let me know what people need from there.

Primarily I do my editing work from Notepad++ rather than in HeroLab, so that is what I'm going to focus on.

Oh I got one how to make a companion tab for players and then to create companion data sets.

THAT would be nice.

I'm with you on a companion tab/data. Unfortunately it was beyond what I was willing to tackle before, and I have even less time now. The problem is the framework for tabs is different from the data, and then if you add the tab, you need to also add it to the character sheets or make a companion sheet. The sheet coding is very esoteric and again, a completely different set of knowledge from everything else.

I've not forgotten about these tutorials, I've just been swamped. If it makes you feel any better, I think about how I've not posted anything yet about twice a day on average, and I feel bad each time.

TL/DR: I've got the most rudimentary start uploaded. I will keep the online ones up-to-date, but maybe you sometimes don't have internet and at those times you would like to have directions on how to make a Race for DnD.

I've been hoping to get back into this and get some more work done, but that's not looking likely for the near future. Rather than just sit on these for another 3 months, I'm uploading what I have and I'll make new versions whenever I can.

At the moment it is easy because there is only one zip file, but as I make updates, there will be more. It is a folder with an executable in it. If that makes you nervous (I know it makes me nervous, and I'm the rando on the internet posting it), the readme has directions on how to get a more trustworthy version. Plus directions on where you can get the Linux or Mac versions of the program that will let you look at the notes. And even as I write all of this, I notice that there is an option to export my notes as HTML. So far I have some foundation stuff, like terminology and how the files are organized (what codes are needed, etc). I've finished the Race setup, but I'm not done with the Racial Features. I'm also not entirely certain that my Racial Feature section is entirely good information.

When I again have some time, my plan is to:

• Fix/Finish Racial Feature
• Add .user files for examples in Race and Racial Feature
• Skills (will be fast)
• Languages, gods, source books, other things that are basically glorified lists (also fast)

From there I will probably tackle Class -> Power, Feat, Item -> Magic Item. After that I'll fill in holes, and link earlier sections to later ones where appropriate (Race to Skill, Feat, Power, and Item, for example). The order may change, but Class will always proceed Power, and Item will always come before Magic Item in my list of things to do. They build too much upon each other.

If someone has a better free hierarchical note program than keepnote that will work on Windows and Mac, I'm all ears, and may be willing to change. It will need to be portable though, because I keep the notes in a SpiderOak folder so that I can work on it on whatever computer I have a moment with.

I am also (almost) entirely flexible on the order I work on things, so if you are waiting for a specific tutorial, I'll try to move it up the list.

I will look these over, I under stand about being over worked, If we can keep these going there does not seem to be anyone else willing to fully take on the mantel YET
